12 previously unheard songs by Amy Winehouse will be released on 5th December as a collection album titled Lioness: Hidden Treasures. The album will mix unreleased tracks with alternative versions of existing songs and "a couple of brand new Amy compositions" and is to be officially billed as her third album which is always a little troubling to me when something like this is released so soon after an artist has passed away, for two reasons; 1) Most of the time tracks that are produced and not released by an artist during their lifetime is for a specific reason. They don't want the public to hear them as they aren't finished or up to the quality they want attached to their name. and 2) As it's a blatant money-grabbing exercise by the living to reap the rewards of the dead. Released by Island Records, Lioness: Hidden Treasures has been worked on by Winehouse's regular collaborators Salaam Remi and Mark Ronson and has been described by Amy's father Mitch as "a fitting tribute" to the singer who died this year. The album will feature Between The Cheats, a brand new single that Winehouse recorded in May 2008 with Remi that Mitch Winehouse says "really took my breath away" and called another track "Halftime, I'd never heard before, is just incredibly beautiful,".
"If the family had felt that this album wasn't up to the standard of Frank and Back To Black we would never have agreed to release it."
Here's the full track listing; One Day Will Come - May 2002 Between The Cheats - May 2008 Tears Dry - November 2005 Wake Up Alone - March 2006 Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow - September 2004 Valerie - December 2006 Like Smoke featuring Nas - May 2008 The Girl From Ipanema - May 2002 Halftime - August 2002 Best Friends - February 2003 Body & Soul - March 2011 A Song For You - Spring 2009 £1 from every album sold will go to the Amy Winehouse foundation that was launched by Mitch in September on the day that would have been his daughter's 28th birthday. My question would be... why not make the whole album non-profit will donations going to charity?
