Oasis What's The Story - Every Song Ranked
3. Champagne Supernova
Every great rock and roll band tends to have that one epic song in their repertoire. Many fans of the classic rock of the 70's can point to things like "Stairway to Heaven" or "Hotel California" as examples of songs that become emblematic for the bands who write them. With "Champagne Supernova," Oasis cemented their place up with those great acts by delivering a drug trip for the ages.
After coming out of the interlude, some faint water sounds lead us into this circular guitar riff and nursery rhyme sounding melody. Once you've settled into the haze, the song explodes in the chorus as the band ascends into the heavens as they build their own sonic supernova.
The sense of dynamics between the verses and choruses are fantastic as the band takes the best bits of Britpop, alternative, and glam rock and meshes them into a fantastic rock juggernaut. Once you've taken flight, a guest guitar solo from the Jam's Paul Weller takes you on a trip through the stars before bringing you down to Earth. It's a testament to the quality of Oasis that they made what is possibly the best Britpop song of them all, and it's not even the best track on the record.
