The first album to be released post-Moon, and probably the best of that era. Moon was replaced by Small Faces drummer Kenney Jones who has often come under heavy criticism after leaving from Roger Daltrey. It's clear that Jones is a talented drummer, but he doesn't haven't the wildness and unpredictability of Moon, which can leave the drumming seem a little uniform. 'Face Dances' was released to very mixed reviews but listening now it isn't actually too bad. Again, the problem with it is that it isn't particularly 'Who-like' and is a clear attempt to almost re-imagine the band. The Ox's songs are pretty dire and Pete's are only slightly better. Yet, unlike the previous two albums, 'Face Dances' has at least as two absolute Who classics in 'Another Tricky Day' and 'You Better You Bet.' The former is a surprisingly pessimistic song from Pete although it does have a great beat and some of Kenney's best drumming, making it definitely worth a latter. If that is a little dreary, 'You Better You Bet' is the total opposite as it's just a really fun track to take in. It has a good, fast beat, some catchy singing by Roger and some moments of romance that seem to be recapturing Pete's songs of old. Overall, a mediocre album elevated by two classics. Best Song: 'You Better You Bet'
