5. SHERlocked
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yt6dFvb8kYw Series 2, "A Scandal in Belgravia" The soundtrack to one of the best, most brilliant, and most heartbreaking scenes in the entire show. The dialogue is perfect, the acting superb, the camerawork and editing amazing - add in an incredible soundtrack with the best dramatic reveal I have ever seen in television, and you have something truly remarkable. The genius of this scene cannot be discounted; it left me breathless the first time I watched it, and still gives me goosebumps every time I re-watch it now. The music is perfect, slowly building the tension with percussive beats that sound like a heartbeat; considering the sexual tension between Sherlock and Irene, and the overall tension in this scene, the beats feel as though they echo the pounding of both their hearts. As Sherlock prepares to defeat Irene once and for all, the gorgeous strings incorporate "Irene's Theme" into the climax of the scene, making the reveal all the more heartbreaking. Sherlock wins the intellectual battle; however, Irene wins the emotional war. In the end, Sherlock ultimately comes to her rescue, and we hear "Irene's Theme" once again as, perhaps for the first time, he allows sentiment to overpower logic in order to save her life. In sum, this is such a wonderful piece, with so much emotion behind it, perfectly fitting this episode with its exploration of Sherlock's heart.
