The relentless efforts to revive the sounds of great British rock eras such as the 60's and the Britpop of the 90's have been evident throughout recent years. A band that can easily be categorized as such is London band Sisteray. Despite starting out only one year ago the Londoners have amassed a sizable following and sold out venues that include The Water Rats and The Legendary 100 Club simply via word of mouth. It's worth mentioning that The Rolling Stones, Oasis and The Sex Pistols have also sold out these venues - not bad footsteps to be following in. Sisteray's debut single comes in the form of a double A-side with "Take It Away" being the stronger of the two. "Take It Away" is centred around a raw and bold guitar riff that gives this tune a toe tapping edge. It's simple but works well. Although this riff can be harsh at times, it is bolstered by admirable vocals that give the single - and the band itself - a sense of originality. The song is sewn up nicely as the tempo intensifies before we are cast into silence. "Happy Endings" goes along with the upbeat trend set by "Take It Away" yet it is a less heavy affair. This song emits a mod feel, there's streaks of the Jam here. It has a little more to it than "Take It Away" - a chirpy guitar solo helps break up the hopeful melody. It's definitely in Summer playlist territory.
Sisteray's debut single is promising. It's a great addition to the already abundant amount of top up and coming British Rock that can be found if you are willing to look. Both songs will be available on iTunes on the 26th of August.
