System Of A Down: Every Album Ranked Worst To Best

3. Hypnotize

For the purposes of the next few entries, it's better that we see the twin albums of Mezmerize and Hypnotize as two separate entities. Though a case could be made for them to be conjoined, they were released separately and separately they shall stay, since both of them have very different tones to them. That being said, Hypnotize is the one great way for System to close out their classic period.

With the first entry of this pair of albums had to do with the deconstruction of America and the artificiality of Hollywood, this is going for a much more introspective tone, which you get from songs like Hypnotize. The anger is still accounted for though, with the opening salvo Attack hitting like a smack in the face and Daron going much harder than he really has to about killing a rabbit on Kill Rock n Roll.

There's two sides of the coin with this record though, and songs like Holy Mountains have a lot more weight behind them, given their origins regarding the group's Armenian heritage. We even have the full version of Soldier Side on here, which ties up the double album concept perfectly with the protagonist finding out that he's never making it back home. It's a bittersweet ending, but it's unfortunately one that happens far too often than most are willing to admit.
