1. The New Order
Recommended Track: Into The Pit. Metallica have Whiplash, Megadeth have Rattlehead, Anthrax have Caught In A Mosh and Testament have Into The Pit; an anthem and a call to arms and I think you'd better do as they say, have you seen the size of Chuck Billy? This could prove to be a contentious choice for number one but I'm sticking to it! Riding high at Number five on my Ten Greatest Thrash Metal Albums Of All Time article, this is Testament's masterpiece and contains some of their finest material. Everything from the beefier production to Alex Skolnick's vastly improved, phenomenal lead guitar work builds on The Legacy's groundwork and then stomps all over it. Featuring classic harsh cuts such as Into The Pit, Disciples Of The Watch, Trial By Fire and The Preacher this is a faultless record from Thrash Metals heyday which utilises chilling dynamics to thrilling effect; the quieter interludes only enhancing the brutality of the bands heavier moments. Testament have never failed to impress and any one of their ten albums could quite rightfully have made this list but The New Order, after many repeat listens, evokes the menace, aggression and complexity of their sound better than any other; an outstanding record from true legends of the Thrash scene.
