The Beatles: 10 Perfect Non-Single Tracks
7. Two Of Us: Let It Be (1970)
The infamous Get Back sessions are noted as a time when the Beatles were falling apart. Yoko Ono was often painted as the wedge that drove Lennon and McCartney apart; Harrison famously quit and rejoined - after becoming dissatisfied with having his ideas ignored - and poor Ringo was stuck in the middle like a child.
Although this period was beset with infighting, the truth is far more nuanced than long standing public opinion has dictated. Peter Jackson's 2021 documentary series, The Beatles: Get Back, has done wonders for dispelling assertions that the Fab Four were constantly at each others throats during this period. They had their troubles, sure, but all you have to do is listen to Lennon and McCartney fool around, while rehearsing "Two Of Us", to realise they were still having fun together. Indeed the sessions led to some of the best material on both Abbey Road and Let It Be.
Released barely a month after the Beatles announced their split, Let It Be was seen by many as an indicator that the band had run their course. Nevertheless it contains some absolute gems.
