The Beatles: 10 Perfect Solo Albums

3. All Things Must Pass - George Harrison

For all of the fantastic Beatles songs to come out of their later period, you really start to feel for George Harrison in most of the recording sessions. Here is a guy who has turned into a seasoned songwriter writing classics like Something and Here Comes the Sun, and he's being restricted to only a few songs per album and virtually ignored by Lennon and McCartney so they can focus on their own stuff. George was stockpiling though, and all those years waiting made for musical gold on his debut record.

While All Things Must Pass might be a touch bloated as a triple record, all of the actual songs on here have just as much power as the more fleshed out songs that George had contributed to the Beatles, with Isn't It a Pity almost being a more philosophical version of a song like Hey Jude. Since this was the first time most people were hearing George as a force to be reckoned with, you get a little bit of everything here too, from folksy jams like Behind That Locked Door to rockers like Wah-Wah, which was inspired directly from an argument during the Get Back sessions.

When George goes for the ballads though, he really nails down emotions that are tough to put into words, like the fleeting nature of life on the title track or that struggle to have an honest connection with your faith and the world around you on My Sweet Lord and I'd Have You Anytime. It had to be tough getting a smoke screen from Paul and John, but every song on here is proof that that stockpiling wasn't in vain.
