The Beatles: All US Number Ones Ranked Worst To Best

16. Love Me Do

4th Number One, 1964 - Written by Paul McCartney

Love Me Do was the first single ever put out by The Beatles, and upon release it peaked at number 17 in the UK, which was an impressive feat for a new band, but a poor reflection of their impending chart dominance. When they surfaced in America, the single was reissued and became their fourth number one.

It is one of their best sing-along tracks, and the moment that harmonica kicks in, you're swept up in a joyous rapture that causes your head to bob to the rhythm. But it's also a much slower, easy-listening type of song than their first three number ones, which were explosive for the time.

Fun Fact: John stole the aforementioned harmonica from a store in Amsterdam.
