The Secret Genius Behind Your Favourite Songs

3. Cowriting Robbie William's Debut Single

Just before Child had taken the world by storm with his infectious Latin sensation, he was already working magic on the other side of the Atlantic. With the Britpop movement still in full swing, Child was called upon yet again by musicians itching for a hit single.

Coming straight from the boy band Take That, Robbie Williams was ripe for the plucking when Child was scouring up and coming talent. Though Williams had worked with his producer and songwriting partner Guy Chambers throughout most of his debut Life Thru a Lens, Child was brought in to sift through some of the pop stars' material. In an attempt to liven up one track, Child took the basis of a Williams song and brought it to his friend Eric Bazilian to create "Old Before I Die." Now, the track boasted a certain sonic character that seemed reminiscent of fellow British giants Oasis.

After hearing the track, Williams' management opted to have the track as the debut single from the album. From there, the table was set for even more hits from Williams like "Angels" and "Let Me Entertain You." Finding his feet in the pop realm, Child spent the rest of the coming decades combing through the pop sphere.
