The Secret Genius Behind Your Favourite Songs
4. Kickstarted The Latin Pop Movement
After years of working rockers into shape, Child decided to venture completely out of his comfort zone. Itching for a new sound, he found a new writing companion in Draco Rosa, who had been known as one of the premier artists in the Latin Pop scene.
Once the writing sessions got underway, Child set out to write something with a Latino feel that could still make audiences move around the world. Working with Rosa, Child came up with a dance tune about a girl who drives a man to near insanity. When the tune was played back, the pair knew they had something phenomenal on their hands.
Now all they needed was the right voice to sing it. After scouring different pop stars' repertoires, the duo decided to leave their song in the hands of Latino singer and actor Ricky Martin, who turned the song into a sensation. In just a few short weeks, the song "Livin La Vida Loca" turned into one of the most ear-catching songs of the late 90's, turning Martin into a superstar and turning the pop charts onto Latin flavors of pop. More than just being a hit, Child had just proven that his songwriting process was able to work over nearly any genre.
