5. Deftones Koi No Yokan
Next to the definition of second wind there should rightfully be a photo of
Deftones. Having started their musical career young in 1988, they released their first album
Adrenaline in 1994. It was a steady rise from here via seminal albums
Around the Fur and (stone cold classic)
White Pony. However the mid period saw success and popularity wane somewhat with their self-titled album and
Saturday Night Wrist. They were broadening their horizons and for most it wasnt an horizon they wanted to see, let alone head toward. It seemed like a sunset. Then
Diamond Eyes happened and the sun rose again, this time bigger and brighter. The band had taken time out and indulged their appreciations of the heavy end of the spectrum just as much as the melodic. Proving that this was no one off
Koi No Yokan comes with a more expansive sound that is equally more ethereal and bludgeoning, as the band experiments further, stretches song lengths and bring some of their biggest choruses in years.
Key tracks Swerve City, Leathers, Entombed, Tempest http://youtu.be/YImIvmtuHAE
