Punk rock is an art form based on rebellion to its core. Born out of frustration from young people in the mid 1970's, they found the only way to vent their concerns at society and the government was through this newfound voice punk rock gave them.
Despite the opinions of some, punk has always been political, right down to the very fibres of its being.
Although they were not heavily politically motivated, punk rock forefathers still showed their political bearings on occasion, with songs about Ronald Reagan, the Berlin Wall and the Vietnam War. Other bands such as the Dead Kennedys were less subtle with their motivation, releasing songs like 'California Uber Alles' and 'Let's Lynch the Landlord'.
Putting all that one side, however, punk rock is based off raw energy and passionate conviction. From its initially swarming outbreak in the late 1970's to the modern day where it murmurs angrily just beyond the fringes of mainstream rock exposure, punk has proved to be ever present.
