TOOL - Fear Inoculum: Every Song Ranked From Worst To Best

7. Chocolate Chip Trip

The overwhelming feeling upon listening to "Chocolate Chip Trip" is that Danny Carey might be the album's MVP. That's not to discredit Adam Jones, Justin Chancellor, or Maynard James Keenan - all of whom kill it throughout, their incredible chops on full display - but Carey is sublime here.

More substantial than the tracks described thus far, "Chocolate Chip Trip" morphs into a full-on showcase for Tool's drummer. It starts with chiming steel before the fun really begins. The electronics kick in and we've got an industrial freakout on our hands, with the chaos unwavering as Carey powers into the spotlight roughly halfway through.

The sticksman begins by abusing the hell out of his snare before his pattern unravels onto toms and the bass, erupting into perhaps his most impressive recorded drum solo. It's a reminder that few can touch Danny Carey. He's his generation's best drummer, and though his excellence is all over Fear Inoculum, "Chocolate Chip Trip" feels like his playground.
