8. The Smiths - Girlfriend In A Coma
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5b_V68mQ9k Opening with the lines "girlfriend in a coma, I know I know, it's really serious" at least we can take comfort in the fact that Morrissey understands the problem and that she might not pull through. That being said, since the song is only two minutes long and was one of the last things Morrissey/Marr ever wrote and performed together you'd be forgiven for thinking differently. Tensions in the Smiths at this time were apparently tipped over boiling point when Morrissey insisted the band cover 'Work Is a Four Letter Word' as the B-Side, a song which was originally co-written and performed by Cilia Black. Marr left shortly afterwards, presumably on protest that the Smiths working class roots didn't extend to covering songs for a "lorra lorra laughs". If you're fortunate enough to receive a flat-pack shelving unit by that special someone this Friday, we'd recommend avoiding any drunken home DIY. But if the rosé does give you that extra confidence boost to get that drill out and it all goes wrong, this might just be the song for you.
