8. Black Sabbath Black Sabbath
The dark, satanic mills of Blakes vision of England never went away. From the smog and ashes of Birminghams industrial district came Black Sabbath, and with them the birth of heavy metal. Created simply with the intention of soundtracking imaginary horror films, the songs of Black Sabbath were the antithesis of the popular scene of the late-60s. Instead of flower power, San Francisco and Woodstock, Sabbath championed heavy blues, fear and paranoia. The world became a better place for it. Who can forget Ozzys demented howl of please God help me! on the titular track? How could you possibly dismiss Geezer Butlers bass run on the intro to N.I.B.? And dont even try to tell me that Tony Iommis extended solo on The Warning isnt a call to arms for others to join their parade. Legend has it that upon hearing the rain soaked church bells that begin the album, Ozzys parents swiftly kicked him out of their home. You just KNOW its a good album if that happens. http://youtu.be/TOXPSSZkFD0
