5. Panic In Babylon
BJMs most recent LP, 2012s
Aufheben, was nothing short of a triumph. Described erroneously in some critical quarters as a return to form (the form had never really gone away in the first place), the album is a blend of modern rock and eastern twangs, aided and abetted by a brace of guest vocalists throughout. For a record based loosely around Georg Hegels notion of the term aufheben, it needs memorable, lofty and well-crafted songs. As luck would have, the record is replete with them. Ever the contrarian, Newcombe forgets about saving the best till last. Instead, the opening track is not only the highlight of the album, but one of the highlights of the groups career.
Panic In Babylon could well be described by people like us as transcendent, ethereal and spiritual, but at times like these, its best to just let the music do the talking. http://youtu.be/FR3H8TY3iGg
