Trent Reznor Announces The Return of Nine Inch Nails

€œI€™ve been thinking for some time now it€™s time to make NIN disappear for a while.€ So went Trent Reznor€™s musings in early 2009 that announced the indefinite hiatus of Nine Inch Nails. Now, as music fans know €˜indefinite€™ is often a lot more definite than most artists are wishing to let on €“ or admit to. So, with that announcement in mind a general feeling that this was not a hiatus but in fact the end fell upon most Nine Inch Nails fans, and was the general consensus of the music press and the music scene. As Reznor went onto clarify, he would still be creating music but branching out beyond the Nine Inch Nails moniker, and whilst he was saying he€™d never say never to producing music as Nine Inch Nails he saw no future for the band as a live entity for the foreseeable future. A string of final dates scattered themselves through 2009 and everyone who get their hands on tickets did, and lorded it over those who couldn€™t. I, unfortunately, could only cling onto the stoned memories of watching them at Reading Festival 2007. And so it was goodbye. However, there were hellos that followed. As promised Reznor continued to put music out in one shape or another, whether as solo dalliances (if you don€™t consider Nine Inch Nails essentially a solo project at its core anyway), or as award winning composer of film scores, or in the shape of a new group with his wife Mariqueen Maandig, Atticus Ross and Rob Sheridan that went, and goes, by the name of How To Destroy Angels. http://youtu.be/Oq3pDuJeMqQ Though each new experiment was entirely enjoyable, it just wasn€™t Nine Inch Nails and I was sick of a friend of mine boasting about seeing their last ever British gig; he already has enough over me live gig wise. Then a few weeks ago I see some murmuring about the possibility of a return, of maybe new material attached to the hope of a tour. Then tonight I receive a text. I check its sources. I write this, and I reveal to you the return of Nine Inch Nails. Though, I€™ll leave it mainly in the words of the man himself. Nine Inch Nails are touring this year.I was working with Adrian Belew on some musical ideas, which led to some discussion on performing, which led to some beard-scratching, which (many steps later) led to the decision to re-think the idea of what Nine Inch Nails could be, and the idea of playing a show. Calls were made to some friends, lots of new ideas were discussed, and a show was booked - which led to another, which somehow led to a lot of shows. The band is reinventing itself from scratch and will be comprised of Eric Avery, Adrian Belew, Alessandro Cortini, Josh Eustis, Ilan Rubin, and me. The first shows will begin this summer, followed by a full-on arena tour of the US this fall, and lots of other dates worldwide to follow through 2014.Lots of details and dates to come. See you soon.TR http://youtu.be/PTFwQP86BRs
