Trivium: Ranking All 9 Albums From Worst To Best
8. The Crusade
Onto the album that was received so negatively, it not only booted the band off subsequent Download festival main stage slots, but cemented - in the eyes of some - Trivium as a group "wanting to be the next Metallica". Copycatting, rather than sticking to the sorts of metalcore innovations they were becoming known for.
And whilst The Crusade's lead single, Anthem (We Are the Fire), was a little cringy and the band themselves have labelled overly cheesy The Rising as one of the worst songs they've ever made - alongside saying many songs overall are "incomplete" - it still resonated with a significant portion of the fanbase.
Tracks like Entrance of the Conflagration had a blistering pace and very Kirk Hammett-style solo in its back half, To The Rats is one of the fastest-picked songs the band have ever done, and the title track is a supremely underrated, overlooked instrumental that - of all the Metallica influences they're often derided for - remains a stellar piece of musicianship and composition.
