10 Most Insane Stories Stephen King Ever Dreamt Up

1. The Moving Finger

Demonic laundry machines, killer novelty teeth - what could be left? How about a giant, hideous finger emerging from your toilet? Now take a moment for the whole "wait, what?" reaction to wear off. It's to be expected. The Moving Finger, also collected in Nightmares and Dreamscapes, starts out with Jeopardy buff Howard Mitla encountering a human finger - outlandishly long, multi-jointed, and eerie - slinking out of his bathroom sink. When the finger attacks, he fights back, with drain cleaner, and later hedge trimmers, which seem to do the job. Of course, where there is one finger, there are more. Three more, and a thumb, and what about another hand? Howard considers this as the police arrive at his apartment (alerted by neighbours hearing all the commotion), and then an officer moves to lift the lid of his toilet... Insane enough for you? Like so many others on this list, The Moving Finger was, for some reason, adapted, as part of the Sci-Fi Channel (now Syfy) series Monsters. Any other insane King stories you'd like to add?
