10 Artists You Didn't Know Committed Suicide

7. Margaux Hemingway

The six foot tall granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway would knock the socks off of the fashion industry with her stature, blond hair and face of a generation. Margaux Hemingway began her modelling career in 1975 and one year later she signed the largest single advertising contract, at that time, for Faberge to the tune of $1 million dollars. Hemingway was a bombshell sensation who appeared on the covers of Cosmopolitan, Elle and Vogue. She would later go on to perform in movies, but would never gain the same accolades as her sister, Mariel. Suffering from alcoholism, bulimia and depression, she would turn to meditation and yoga to try to heal. Her family life was strained and she would later accuse her godfather of molesting her as a child, allegations that the family denies. She spent most of her later life at the family estate in Ketchum, Idaho where her grandfather had committed suicide, but also maintained a residence in Santa Monica. She was discovered dead in her Santa Monica apartment due to a drug overdose. Initially, her sister Mariel refuted the findings, but in 2005 she admitted she believes them. Hemingway was the seventh person in the family to take her own life.
