4. Ticket To Ride

Increasingly popular in the last few years, Ticket To Ride has a deceptively fiendish premise: build train lines across a continent (or two) so that you have longer routes than anyone else playing. Unfortunately, it's much harder to win than it is to describe.

Each player is given a different colour of train which they need to place on the board and connect cities to one another, and everyone has at least two cards which give them specific routes that they must complete in order to get extra points, which you'll need if you want to win against some of the more highly skilled players out there.

And there are a bunch of them; many countries now host Ticket To Ride competitions in various cities on a regular basis, and if you're not prepared going in then you're unlikely to have a smooth ride...
