10 Best Ever Stories Told On Hot Ones
6. Neil DeGrasse Tyson Thought Any Old Music Would Do
Anytime Neil deGrasse Tyson gave an interview, you kind of expected him to speak almost exclusively about astrophysics. Alongside host Sean Evans, Tyson certainly delivered on the science stuff, but it was far from the most curious part of his Hot Ones conversation.
Using the time he was voted as "The Sexiest Astrophysicist Alive" by People magazine, Evans segued into a little-known piece of trivia when he asked Tyson about the time he considered becoming an exotic male dancer.
The scientist explained that he found himself in need of an extra source of income early on in college. As part of a dance team, Tyson had heard some of his teammates made a side hustle by performing at all-male nightclubs. Although it wasn't an ideal situation, he showed up at the club one night to see what he was potentially getting himself into.
The air was sucked out of the room when a group of male dancers came out to the floor wearing asbestos-lined g-strings, which they then ignited as "Great Balls of Fire" played out through the PA system.
According to Tyson, the most disappointing part of the night came when he realized it wasn't until then that he considered tutoring math instead.
