10 Best Fantasy Worlds In Fiction
9. Randland - The Wheel of Time
Randland isn't the real name of this world, but it's an affectionately chosen title from fans based upon one of the primary protagonists of the series, Rand al' Thor. Written by Robert Jordan and finished posthumously by Brandon Sanderson with assistance from Jordan's widow Harriet McDougal, The Wheel of Time is a deep and nuanced book series which develops fantasy in a traditional but unique way.
The series is a high stakes story about good vs. evil, but that is to put it very plainly. The story allows for complexities and dynamics that shape the traditional hero's journey/good vs. evil format into an advanced and highly intricate narrative and philosophy.
The world is full of magic and very importantly, prophecies. We follow as the protagonists work their way through discovering parts of The Prophecies of the Dragon, and figuring this out is one of the main pleasures that comes from exploring this world.
There are fourteen books altogether, but fret not if you are a slow reader for Amazon Prime are currently working on an adaptation. Let's hope that it is a success and brings a new fantasy world to the mainstream.
