10 Best Harry Potter Chapters
6. The Only One He Ever Feared
Book: The Order of the Phoenix
Chapter Synopsis: Dumbledore and Voldemort duel against each other in the atrium of the Ministry of Magic.
Fans had been eagerly anticipating a duel between Dumbledore and Voldemort ever since the first book. Thankfully, the end of the fifth novel was more than satisfactory.
Compared to the everyday spells of Hogwarts students, the magic utilised by Dumbledore and Voldemort was nothing short of mesmerising. Dumbledore’s enchantment of the Fountain of Magical Brethren was particularly clever and unique.
Yet Voldemort was equal to him. Indeed, had it not been for Dumbledore’s Phoenix (Fawkes), Voldemort may well have been the victor. His mastery of the Dark Arts was a wonderful contrast to Dumbledore’s own skills, leading to some rich descriptions from Rowling.
There were many duels throughout Harry Potter, but this one stands out as the best due to the fact that Rowling was able to simultaneously demonstrate each wizard’s extensive skills and provide a visual feast for the reader.
