While there are a whole variety of subject matters featured in our Best Podcast Episodes of 2019, at WhatCulture we're so often all about the world of pro wrestling. And thus, it would be remiss of us to not include at least one wrestling-driven podcast here.

The world of pro wrestling pods is an ever-expanding one, with independent pods such as Solomonster Sounds Off, Wrestling Soup, and PWTorch producing weekly content that's just as engaging - if not more so - as the output from big-name stars such as Steve Austin, Chris Jericho, and Arn Anderson.

One wrestling pod that has taken the listening world by storm in recent years, of course, is Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard. Hosted by Conrad Thompson, this weekly offering looks back at a specialist topic from the world of professional wrestling, with Prichard and Thompson bouncing off each other superbly.

Something to Wrestle delivered some great shows throughout 2019, yet one that stands out above the rest is the 'Austin 1998/1999' show. Shining the spotlight on the hottest star of the hottest period in wrestling history, Prichard's hands-on experience of being in Vince McMahon's inner circle provides a unique insight into the ascension of Stone Cold and how this rise helped the then-WWF begin to dominate the Monday Night Wars.

There has never been a wrestler as popular as Steve Austin was in 1998 and '99, and this 2 1/2 hour exploration of that time in wrestling history is a vital piece of listening for anyone with even a fleeting interest in the wrestling business.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic. Between his main dayjob, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks, Jamie Hayer, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg.
