10 Best True Crime Podcasts Everyone Must Listen To
4. In The Dark
Another award-winning true crime podcast, In the Dark has had a genuine real-world impact. It’s a sterling example of investigative journalism by Madeleine Baran and holds the United States justice system to account.
Series one was launched in 2016 and dealt with the disappearance of Jacob Wetterling. This case remained unsolved for 27 years, but the killer confessed not long before In the Dark debuted. The second series is focused on Mississippi resident Curtis Flowers, who was tried for four murders it was unlikely he committed… six times.
In the Dark was a part in what led to one of Flowers’ convictions being overturned by the US Supreme Court. In both series, Baran uncovers a number of errors by police and law enforcement, as well as prosecutorial misconduct.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, In the Dark has released a limited run series following lives of those who live in the Mississippi delta.
