This is the longest of King's unpublished works, coming in at roughly 150,000 words. It was completed in April of 1970, though it was rejected by twelve different publishers. King now feels that the work is unpublishable and intends for it not to be released to the public.

Like many of King's works, there is a wide cast of characters. There is a character dealing with the suicide of his pregnant sister along with the death of his mother from a brain tumour. There is another character who is a black activist lawyer who incites a riot after speaking at a local high school.

An excerpt of the novel was published in Stephen King: Uncollected, Unpublished by Rocky Wood. It features the character of Edie Rowsmith, and it effectively a stand alone horror story in the style of early King works.

This work is another case of fascinating 'what could have beens' from King. Certainly there are many, many examples of early King to work with, but the idea of a lost or forgotten novel is tantalizing to the collectors of the world. Some of King's works can be hard to find, as several have gone out of print. Rage is an example of this, as King himself has allowed it to go out of print, dealing as it does with school shootings.

Speaking of which -
