Perhaps no other protagonist on this list is as tragic as John Coffey. As told by aging former death row warden Paul Edgecombe, who knew Coffey personally, the tale of the huge prisoner is one of awe and sadness. Accused and convicted of the rape and murder of 2 young girls, Coffey is sent to Cold Mountain State Penitentiary to await his execution. It becomes evident early on that the officers on The Green Mile, the nickname of the death row ward, dont fully believe that the gentle giant Coffey actually committed the crime. However, because Coffey was an uneducated and simpleminded black man in the racist south of the 1930s, he was railroaded and convicted nonetheless. It further becomes apparent that John Coffey is a special person. Coffey shows an apparently God given ability to heal others by literally draining whatever ails them from their bodies, even resuscitating a mouse from death. Eventually, Edgecombe learns the real truth behind the murders of the 2 young girls, but by then, it was too late to save the nearly angelic, John Coffey.
A self professed Stephen King/Star Wars geek and pop culture neophyte, Scott tends to spend much of his time alone pondering life's greatest mysteries.....he also depends heavily on his son Liam, a great sounding board, to set him straight on Star Wars issues and gives him advice on what EXACTLY he's doing wrong.
