10 Bloodthirsty Creatures From Global Folklore
4. Kuri
Have you ever gone for a hike in a thickly wooded area or a lonesome valley, and got the eerie feeling that something was following you or watching you from behind the trees? If you're in the UK, it may have been a kuri keeping an eye on you from beyond the veil that separates our world from the realm of monsters.
Legend says the kuri skulks around inside the shallow graves of those who die out in the wild. Should some unfortunate soul happen to stumble upon such a grave, the kuri will subtly lay hold of them. Once the person is back home, they will start having nightmares about the kuri. They will feel unseen fingers running over their skin. Towards the end of the kuri’s reign of terror, it will morph its grotesque face with that of his or her loved one, making the terrified person feel like they are going insane.
Eventually the kuri will cunningly convince his victim to return to the grave it unknowingly picked the monster up from. The kuri will then cause him or her to walk aimlessly around in the wild until they collapse in exhaustion and eventually die. As they await their inevitably gruesome end, the kuri whispers in their ear that their destination is hell and he will be dragging them to it. Once the victim collapses into yet another shallow grave, the morbid cycle starts all over again.
