5. La Diablesse
From Trinidadian folklore comes the tale of La Diablesse. La Diablesse appears only to men, while she is in the form of a woman with a beautifully toned body, luring them into the forest late at night during a full moon. However, she keeps her face hidden underneath a large hat as it is horribly disfigured. And what’s more, once a man gets close enough to touch her, he realizes that she has one human leg and one cow’s leg with a hoof at the end.
Once the unfortunate man sees this and tries to get away, La Diablesse disappears and leaves him to wander the woods with little hope of being rescued.
It is said that if La Diablesse appears within a group of people, the men should turn their clothes inside out or light a match, and she will vanish before their eyes.
