A 17-year old Scottish teenager named Lucy had taken a birthday trip to New York City, and while in town caught a Broadway performance of Of Mice And Men, starring Franco. When the starstruck girl met the actor after the show, she took an instagram video with him, in which he encouraged her to tag him. Later that night, the 35-year old Franco began a flirtatious conversation. Skeptical of the true identity of the person she was messaging, she requested proof and Franco complied, posting two pictures, one with him holding a piece of paper with her name written on it. During the exchange, Lucy told the actor she was 17 and he responded by asking when her birthday was. Franco asked her if she had a boyfriend, and offered to come to the hotel and meet up. At one point she says it's a story her friends in Scotland won't believe, to which he responds with "Don't tell". The hookup wasn't meant to be, and the teen posted evidence of the event on imgur. The news media jumped on the story like rabid sharks and Franco had to make a statement. Most stars would have just laid low and waited for it to blow over, feigned ignorance or went with the trusty (but NEVER effective) "I was hacked" routine, but instead Franco posted a meme on his twitter account that asked if he was thirsty for underage girls and tweeted "I'M NOT! I HOPE PARENTS KEEP THEIR TEENS AWAY FROM ME. Thank you". A few days later he appeared on SNL during Seth Rogen's hosting gig where the two poked fun at Franco for the incident. For something that could have been incredibly damaging, rather than hide from it, James Franco hit it head on with a smile on his face.
