6. Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga is an artist who has shown she is in no way content to rest on the laurels of her talent alone. The singer born Stefani Germanotta is an outspoken, controversial performer who enjoys making a spectacle of herself. Hidden beneath all the flash and pageantry is a very gifted musician, but it often gets lost in the extravaganza of the persona she's crafted. Gaga wears many hats, from singer/songwriter, to philanthropist and activist, but along with those hats she's also worn some pretty outrageous outfits. However nothing in her wardrobe (or in the entire history or future of apparel) will ever stand out more than the dress she donned for the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. The pop star wore a dress made entirely out of cuts of raw meat. Not simulations of meat, or meat-colored fabrics, but actual meat. It was disgusting and had to have smelled awful, but Lady Gaga gave zero f*cks and proudly pranced around in her $4.99/pound gown. Sadly, we were robbed of classic red carpet moments like "I'm here with Lady Gaga, who looks gorgeous in the latest from the Kroger collection". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ms8j5g6OKZU The dress was condemned by animal rights groups and Gaga somehow tried to turn it into a protesting statement for gay rights in the military (WTF?). For someone who prides herself on being the center of attention, this one will be hard to top. The dress was preserved by taxidermists and turned into jerky (no, that's not a joke) and is now on display in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So for those of you on the fence about making the trip to Cleveland to take in the museum of music history, there's that last reason you needed to book the flight immediately.
