10 Celebrities Who Were Murdered By Their Own Fans
5. Christina Grimmie
On June 10, 2016, Christina Grimmie was 22. She rose to fame posting songs on YouTube. She had also finished third on the sixth season of The Voice and gotten herself signed to Adam Levine's record label. Her first movie was out and at that point in her life, the only way left to go was up. But Kevin James Loibl had other plans for her.
Loibl was a resident of St Petersburg, Florida. He travelled 100 miles to watch Grimmie perform. According to Loibl's only friend and his co-workers at BestBuy, the 27-year-old was obsessed with Grimmie. He lost 50 pounds, got hair plugs, and underwent LASIK eye surgery. He printed his ticket to Grimmie's concert in Orlando five days early.
But Loibl made other preparations for the trip. He bought two guns, picking up the last one three days before the concert after a five-day waiting period.
Loibl approached Grimmie while she was signing autographs and chatting with fans. When she rose to greet him, he shot her several times in the chest. Grimmie's brother, Marcus Grimmie, tackled Loibl. Loibl won the short struggle and turned the gun on himself. He died on the spot. Christina Grimmie lingered for a few hours.
The police never found a motive for the murder. Loibl planned it meticulously. His phone was encrypted and he intentionally destroyed the hard drive on his computer to prevent any data from being extracted.
