Janet Jackson may have lived her life in the shadow of her considerably more successful brother, but she's still had to face up to the darker side of stardom, with a man who she claims has hounded her for nearly a decade. Back in 2005, Robert Gardner of New York was finally ordered by the courts to remain at minimum 100 yards away from Janet Jackson, her family and associates for three years, after Jackson managed to secure a restraining order. Jackson stated that the man had fabricated a "personal history" with her and "has been following me, sending me faxes and letters and attempting to arrange in-person meetings." Most troubling was her close encounter at NBC's New York studios, where security stopped him with a box-cutter, a knife and a large pair of scissors. After the ruling in which the restraining order was imposed, the delusional man stated that he intended to hire a lawyer to contest the verdict, and appeared incredulous that Jackson would do this, saying, "We do have a little personal contact." Presumably, Janet Jackson's idea of "personal contact" generally doesn't require sharp metallic objects.
