10 Common Nightmares (And What They Actually Mean)
9. Being Late
Late, late, late! You're late for a very important date, and all the profuse sweating that comes with it. One of the most recurring dreams experienced by people from all around the world is the idea that they're late for something and scrambling and panicking because of it. What we're late for is sometimes never discovered before the dream ends, but dreamers often report the same feeling of sinking-stomach terror that accompanies the real-life realisation of running behind for something important. What It Means... Being late in a dream is generally considered to indicate that the dreamer is suffering a kind of performance anxiety in one aspect of their life or another, that has transferred into the world of dreams: usually being unable to perform a task, or fulfil a duty. Lateness might be a fear that many of us have, but it can cause a common and fretful dream in which our fears of not measuring up or failing in our lives come boiling to the surface.
