10. Cook Whole Meals From Scratch

tumblrSleep eating (or, to give it its full name, Nocturnal Sleep Related Eating Disorder) is a surprisingly common parasomnia (sleep disorder), affecting thousands of people over the last few decades. Most people afflicted will find themselves eating bizarre combinations of foods while fast asleep, often in unusual combinations, raw, frozen or even spoiled and rotten and even consuming non-food like cigarettes or wood. Then theres the Scottish man who cooks whole meals in his sleep. Robert Wood, a former chef, is in his early sixties, and has been sleepwalking for about fifty years (his feet must be
killing him). He made the news a decade or so ago after finally seeking medical help for his worsening condition, which saw him getting up four or five times a night to visit the kitchen and preparing food but of course, being a professional, he went a little further than most. His wife Eleanor, woken by his nocturnal wandering around, can testify to her Rab having cooked stir fries, omelettes and even spaghetti bolognaise, all while fast asleep. Hes even put the chip pan on in the middle of the night, a nightmarish fire risk that if we witnessed it, would put us off ever sleeping in that house again. Mr. Wood had self-diagnosed an ulcer that prevented him eating much while awake as the cause of his behaviour, while actual doctors tended to blame breathing issues as the root of the problem. Whatever the real culprit, we hope that Mr. and Mrs. Wood are getting a little more kip and a little less kipper these day.
