"Boy, be careful. You play with fire." Theres a special place in hell for the Nazi butchers who committed so many atrocities during WW2. They were beasts who unflinchingly tortured, maimed and killed millions of Jews in the concentration camps. King fleshes out such a living, breathing beast in the novella Apt Pupil, Kurt Dussander. Living under the assumed identity of an aging senior citizen named Arthur Denker in southern California, Dussander is simply putting in time until death when a very industrious and equally twisted young paperboy by the name of Todd Bowden outs him as the German killer. Bowden blackmails Dussander with threat of exposure, unless the old man tells him all of the twisted stories from the concentration camps. He even buys Dussander a replica SS officer uniform to wear while he tells the tales. From there the two corrupt each other in the worst ways possible. Dussander, after initially recoiling at Todds twisted requests, quickly reverts to the monster he once was. He begins a campaign of torture and murder that begins with stray animals and escalates to homeless men. Those horrific acts, combined with the ease which Dussander seamlessly transforms to his former self, is shocking and creepy.
A self professed Stephen King/Star Wars geek and pop culture neophyte, Scott tends to spend much of his time alone pondering life's greatest mysteries.....he also depends heavily on his son Liam, a great sounding board, to set him straight on Star Wars issues and gives him advice on what EXACTLY he's doing wrong.
