"The young carpenter from Nazareth? I know him well. Promising young man. He died badly." When the new shop called Needful Things opens in Castle Rock, Maine, the citizens are amazed by the fact that it seems to have something that is perfectly suited for each person who walks through the door. And to make things even better, the prices are devilishly low. Perhaps its because the proprietor, Leland Gaunt, is in fact, the Devil. Gaunt presents as a charming, elderly gentleman who possesses knowledge as well as merchandise that defy logic. In return for the items being sold at such incredibly low prices, all the customer has to do is play a small prank on another member of the town. Gaunt seems to know all of the towns long standing grudges and feuds and plays on those to nefarious ends. Eventually the pranks escalate and the town is thrown into complete chaos and violence. At the climax Gaunt is viewed for what he really is in all of his Devilish glory, only to disappear. The story ends as it began, with the opening of another shop called Answered Prayers in Junction City, Iowa, indicating that Mr. Gaunt is not quite finished with his work.
A self professed Stephen King/Star Wars geek and pop culture neophyte, Scott tends to spend much of his time alone pondering life's greatest mysteries.....he also depends heavily on his son Liam, a great sounding board, to set him straight on Star Wars issues and gives him advice on what EXACTLY he's doing wrong.
