Fanfic Of: Hetalia: Axis Powers Plot: A kid is watches a bootleg DVD of the strange but popular cartoon Hetalia: Axis Powers (a show where the nations of the world are represented by apparently quite dense single humans named for the countries they represent. For example, because Italy's military had a reputation for performing ridiculously incompetently during WWII, the character Italy is a comical blunderer). He finds a surprising, unfamiliar episode 23.5 on the disc. In the episode Japan, Germany, and Italy are stranded on an island. Driven to desperation by hunger, Germany and Japan try to drown Italy and prepare him for eating. To their surprise, Italy wakes up in the middle of being prepared. After some struggle, Italy accepts his fate with a smile. No answers are forthcoming as to where this macabre episode came from. Commentary: Hetalia was always a story in pretty questionable taste for how it portrayed WWII in such a ridiculous, barely satirical manner that was rather flippant about the horrors inflicted by the Axis. Despite that, the descriptions of realistic gore in the story and the idea of anyone waking up to find they're being eaten alive are likely to overwhelm any feelings of righteous indignation you might feel over the premise of the cartoon. Still, author Kyokoon64 does lend the story of the evil episode of this anime an air of mystery and doesn't overdo the gore enough for it to become tedious. Read it Yourself (NSFW)
