His bizarre story took place in an isolated cabin in the north of New York state, where he was staying with his wife and son over the Christmas holidays. At around 11PM, Strieber heard a strange noise and assumed it might be a burglar. However, upon investigating, he discovered a weird creature standing in the bedroom with him. An instant later, Strieber found himself sitting alone in the woods near his cabin. Strieber turned to hypnotist Dr. Donald F. Klein, in an attempt to recover his lost memories. Over the course of several regressive hypnosis sessions, Strieber was able to piece together what had happened. He remembered that shortly after encountering the creature, he was floated from the bedroom into a UFO above the woods. Inside the craft were a few different types of alien creatures; one resembled a robot, while another was very thin and frail with "haunting" black eyes. Most disturbing though, was Strieber's recollection of the medical procedures performed. A long needle was inserted into his brain, and a tool was pushed into his rectum. Streiber's claims have been dismissed as hallucinations, but he has maintained to this day that what happened was real.
