10 Creepy Animated Horror Shorts To Watch This Halloween

6. Midnight Snack

A somewhat roughly drawn 2D animated film, Midnight Snack is an atmospheric short animated by David Romero and posted by Let's Read. The story follows a hobo breaking into a locked up, police-taped abandoned building to find shelter from a snow storm. Plagued by hunger, he looks for something to eat, and finds a strange piece of fresh meat in a hole in the wall. And, for some reason not questioning fresh meat out of a strange hole, he cooks and eats it.

Things only go downhill from there, with simple yet decisive sound design, creepy visuals in a painted background, and clues throughout that hint at what might have happened in this place that caused its abandonment, as well as the police tape reminding the audience of possible danger. Only a few lines are spoken in this film, and they are terrifying to hear and see play out onscreen.

Its sketchiness does nothing to detract from its horror and quality, and Romero does a great job building the film up to its heart-stopping climax.

Another Romero short worth mentioning is Other Lilly, another creepy supernatural piece that shows off the creator's increasingly masterful horror chops.
