10 Creepy Animated Horror Shorts To Watch This Halloween
3. Salad Fingers
A gem of early YouTube that's familiar to many who've been on the site, Salad Fingers is a dirty, grotty-looking 2D animated series by David Firth, previously mentioned on this list for his awesome, awful stop motion short, Crooked Rot.
The series of short, somewhat self-contained episodes follows the eponymous Salad Fingers, a soft-spoken green man with long fingers living in a seemingly post-apocalyptic world. Speaking in a friendly and dream-like manner, Salad Fingers is bonkers and vile and surrounded by things and characters that are about as vile as he is, whatever endearing qualities he has taken over by his sinister creepiness, with episodes often involving blood, rust, and other untrustworthy fluids or fumes.
As disturbing as Salad Fingers is, he was part of growing up with YouTube over the mid to late 2000s, and anyone active on the site at the time remembers him with both fondness and horror. Revisiting him this Halloween would do a soul good - especially after Firth re-uploaded all episodes together in one video just this year - remembering a time where YouTube was the Wild West and Salad Fingers was one of its most popular fixtures.
