5. Vigeland Baby Kicking Installation - Oslo

The Vigeland Installation is located in Frogner Park in Oslo. It features 212 bronze and granite sculptures designed by Gustav Vigeland. The park examines relations between men and women, adults and children via weird statues. Many of the statues seem to replicate wrestling moves, but none are as odd as the man fighting babies. While the title of the piece is Man Chasing Four Geniuses, it appears that there are more fisticuffs going on than running. The sculpture portrays a man casting off three infants from above and kicking another one like a 7 pound, 4 ounce soccer ball. Equally strange is the fact that all of the babies appear to have been sculpted in exactly the same way and same pose, which does not lend to an organic feeling. Some of the sculptures capture tender moments between parents and children, but this is not one of them.
