10 Deeply Disturbing Disneyland Urban Legends

8. The Haunted Mansion Ghost

Inevitably there's a whole subculture of haunting and supernatural stories attached to Disneyland's Haunted Mansion ride. "Several" ghosts are supposed to haunt the ride, with the first ghost story coming as the ride was being built back in the '60s. Apparently one of the sound designers was in the Seance Room and heard music coming through a wall, which persisted for days without a source.

Somewhat irresponsibly, the park designers simply decided to put a speaker in the vicinity of the creepy music to mask it, rather than calling in the Ghostbusters. Employees also like to perpetuate myths about the ride: like the spell book in the Seance Circle was real and that it kept moving overnight.

And then there are specific guest stories, like the person who claimed to have taken their night-vision camera equipment into the ride to show other potential visitors what they could see within the ride - and presumably not caring a tiny bit that doing so would ruin the entire magic of the ride. That person - a regular on the WDWMagic forum, whose claims of authenticity seem genuine enough - happily snapped away, and it was only when the images were uploaded onto a laptop that anything suspicious came to light.

"Lo and behold, one of the first shots of the attraction shows something that definitely WAS NOT there when I was on the ride. This photo was taken in the first hallway of the attraction, the one with the eye-following portraits. As you€™ll see in the photo, it appears as though a child is peeking his head out of the doombuggy and looking directly at me. Not only was he not there when I took the pic, there wasn€™t a child of this age within 20 people in front of me in line, and as you can see, he€™s only a few doombuggies in front of me. Not only that, what€™s he doing looking at me? There is NO flash and NO visible light coming from me. It€™s all infrared and invisible to the naked eye."

Is There Any Truth In It? That's a pretty compelling image, especially if you take the posters "definitely not Photoshopped" claims at face value. But then, it could quite easily just be an actual child in the dark too, couldn't it?

Some claim the ghosts' source is probably the hearse in front of the ride, which was claimed to be the real one used to carry Brigham Young at his funeral. Except, that was proved false, as Young wasn't carried in a hearse
