10 More Deserving Winners Of Time's "Person Of The Year" Than The Pope

4. Dennis Rodman

Not exactly renowned for his adherence to the quiet life, former basketball star and professional flamboyant Dennis Rodman found himself skirting the line between politician and sporting hero upon his first visit to the secretive North Korean state. The result? An unexpected apparent friendship with leader Kim Jong-Un and a chance to bridge the yawning chasm between the USA and North Korea via the shooting of hoops. Rodman being who he is, there has been a splash of controversy on his first and return trips to the Stalinist stronghold. First, he simply made waves with his appearance ("He looks like a dragon!" exclaimed one nervous onlooker when he first stepped on Pyongyang soil) and most recently, a rather "tired and emotional" Rodman became a little over-excited on a US news broadcast when challenged about his thoughts and any possible actions in regards to Kenneth Bae, currently imprisoned in North Korea on spying charges. If Rodman somehow has sway in how and when North Korea may relax on the world stage and become more accessible, it may just be one of the weirdest yet welcome political coups of all time.
