10 Extreme Airport Runways You Won't Believe Exist

7. Barra International Airport - Barra, Scotland

Barra Airport Scotland

Barrra Airport is the only place in the world with scheduled flights landing on the beach.

There are three runways at Barra, but all of them disappear under the sea during high tide. On the rare occasion where a plane is forced to land at night, vehicle headlights are used to light up the runways reflective markers.

You might think that flights here are rare but Flybe flies twice daily between Barra and Glasgow... just not when the tide is in.
