Old Maj herself has been reported dead numerous times, but the most awful / hilarious attempt at ending the Windsor reign (at least, the portion named Elizabeth) came from the BBC itself! On May 17, 2010 BBC Radio West Midlands managed to announce ''Queen Elizabeth II has now died'', and proceeded to play God Save The Queen. The anthem was interrupted by the producer of the show and the host, Danny Kelly, later had to admit that the announcement was meant as a joke. Unfortunately, due to the announcement coming from the BBC itself, many thousands of local listeners believed the joke as being true.
