Although The Chronicles of Narnia is widely regarded as a children's series, the world created by CS Lewis (who was actually a friend of JRR Tolkein; the two were members of literary society The Inklings) actually has a lot of depth, and steeps with allusions to Christianity.

In fact, the series can be read in many ways with its Biblical parallels in mind. The Magician's Nephew, chronologically the first book in the series, documents the creation of Narnia in a way which reflects the formation of the world in the Bible's Genesis. Meanwhile, Aslan, the legendary King of Narnia, is overtly a stand-in for Jesus Christ, demonstrated by his resurrection and exalted status in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

The seven short books in the series may have been published as separate entities, but as a collection they form a cohesive fantasy novel of the highest order.
